In department stores and supermarkets across the country, clothing and accessories for so-called "plus-sized" women is often marketed under a new size category known simply as "Woman." Thus implying, I guess, that the rest of the entire fashion universe falls under an implied "Not-woman" or "Girl" category. Or perhaps the "Girl With the Body of a Twelve Year Old Boy" category.

Here is the exact spot where I saw John Travolta on the way to the ATM today. He was being filmed in a car camera rig travelling down Sunset. Most likely he was shooting Be Cool, the sequel to Get Shorty.
I've realized that Los Angeles mostly consists of moments like these. As in,
This is the wall in front of the house that Tom Cruise used to live in at one point. Point, click -- snap a photo.

STUNNED & SPEECHLESS.
Ten bombs exploded during the morning commute in Madrid, Spain. So many people died; so many were injured. The biggest attack happened at Atocha station, which is just a few blocks away from where Andrew lives. He's okay. But miraculously so -- he was on another train three minutes outside of Atocha station when the blasts occurred. Don't know how to feel right now...extreme relief that Andrew's okay, but utterly stunned, sick with dread, trying not to panic.
I don't know what else to say.
So I'm stuck with silence.

Went for another walk today only to discover this mysterious fruit growing just off of Sunset. Still haven't identified it.
There's a billboard for Shrek 2 just outside of work. Beyond it, there's a building mural advertisement for Target.
If you position yourself just right, an interesting illusion appears.

Near Santa Monica's City Hall stands a 35-foot-tall statue made by artist Paul Conrad in 1991. It's called Chain Reaction. The swarming chain links make me feel like my skin is bubbling with insects. Creepy.
 Detail.
And here's an interesting tidbit: Santa Monica became sister city to Fujinomiya, a town in Japan right at the foot of Mount Fuji, on July 21, 1975. I only point this out because it reminds me of my extensive experience in coordinating afternoon tea socials for elderly sister city "delegates" back while I was working for Yokohama City Hall.

I went to a Clippers game with my brother tonight. They beat the Portland Blazers handily, which is rare because they usually aren't very good. And they sometimes send the ball sailing out of the court instead of to each other.
